Addition table tricks

  1. Adding 1١: Adding 1١ gives the next number: 7٧ + 1١ = 8٨.
  2. Adding 2٢: Adding 2٢ is jumping two numbers: 7٧ + 2٢ → 8٨, 9٩.
  3. Adding 3٣: Count on three from the bigger number: 6٦ + 3٣ → 7٧, 8٨, 9٩.
  4. Adding 4٤: Add 2٢, then 2٢ again: 7٧ + 4٤ = 7٧ + 2٢ + 2٢ = 11١١.
  5. Adding 5٥: Use the fingers of one hand, or make 10١٠: 8٨ + 5٥ = 8٨ + 2٢ + 3٣ = 13١٣.
  6. Adding 6٦: A double plus one: 6٦ + 7٧ = 6٦ + 6٦ + 1١ = 13١٣.
  7. Adding 7٧: Make 10١٠ first: 7٧ + 5٥ = 7٧ + 3٣ + 2٢ = 12١٢.
  8. Adding 8٨: Add 10١٠, then take away 2٢: 8٨ + 6٦ = 6٦ + 10١٠ − 2٢ = 14١٤.
  9. Adding 9٩: Add 10١٠, then take away 1١: 9٩ + 7٧ = 7٧ + 10١٠ − 1١ = 16١٦.
  10. Adding 10١٠: Adding 10١٠ adds one to the tens and keeps the ones: 10١٠ + 6٦ = 16١٦.
